Francis Bizoza Bigirimana, widely known as The African Travelling Teacher, delivered a powerful keynote at eLearning Africa 2024, taking the audience on a deeply personal and Pan-African journey of educational transformation.
In his address titled “Networking African Teachers to Inspire Africa’s Vibrant Leap Forward”, Francis shared how his background—growing up in a border region of Uganda—and his path from seminary student to proud educator ignited his passion for reshaping education in Africa. He spoke of the mentors who guided him, the classrooms that shaped him, and the vision that drives his work today: building a network of African teachers who are grounded in local culture, equipped with digital tools, and committed to preparing learners to solve real-world challenges.
Through The African Travelling Teacher, Francis is using road-based outreach, story-based learning, and offline-first technologies like Kolibri to deliver inclusive, Afrocentric education to underserved communities. His message challenged educators to move beyond rote learning and instead foster creativity, problem-solving, and global citizenship. From teaching under trees to partnering with global schools, he continues to amplify Africa’s stories and solutions—both on the ground and through his YouTube channel.
His keynote was more than a speech—it was a call to action: to empower teachers, honor indigenous knowledge, embrace technology, and prepare a new generation to lead Africa’s vibrant leap forward.
