In March 2025, our founder, Francis Bizoza—widely known as The African Travelling Teacher—joined education leaders, students, and global changemakers at the Future of Education Now (FOEN25) Festival of Learning hosted by the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB). This invitation came as part of a high-level panel discussion on Socially Responsible Leadership (SRL), a concept that resonates deeply with our mission.
A Seat at the Table: Representing African Voices
Francis was invited to share insights from his work across underserved schools in East Africa, where he travels by road to reach the most remote learning communities. On a panel that included representatives from the Council of International Schools (CIS), WAB leadership, and student changemakers, Francis brought a powerful grassroots perspective to global education discourse.
The panel kicked off with a question that echoes through every classroom we visit:
“What is the most important purpose of international education?”
Francis responded with a firm conviction: international education must equip learners not only with academic knowledge but with the agency to lead change, the empathy to connect across cultures, and the responsibility to build a more just and sustainable world.
Socially Responsible Leadership: Beyond the Buzzwords
Drawing from the themes presented at FOEN25, SRL was explored not as a theory but a lived practice. It calls for:
- Ethical decisions that prioritize people and planet
- Inclusive approaches that value every learner’s voice
- Sustainable actions that protect future generations
- A commitment to wellbeing—for individuals, schools, and communities
This framework directly aligns with our work in Africa, where The African Travelling Teacher supports educators and learners facing the most difficult conditions—from teaching under trees to navigating life in refugee settlements. In these spaces, leadership isn’t about position—it’s about purpose.
A Vision for Lasting Impact
In the final question—“What lasting impact do you hope to create?”—Francis shared a vision shaped by years on the road:
A future where every child, no matter their geography, is given hope, access, and dignity through education.
This is the heart of The African Travelling Teacher. Through school collaborations, career guidance, digital literacy, and teacher training, we’re working to unlock learning opportunities for all—and connecting local efforts to global conversations like FOEN25.
Grateful for the Global Connection
We extend our sincere thanks to the Western Academy of Beijing, the CIS team, and fellow panelists for the warm welcome and rich dialogue. The FOEN25 experience reaffirmed that meaningful change in education starts with relationships—grounded in shared values, and driven by a collective vision for a better world.
